Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

The Quatela Center is pleased to offer non-surgical treatments as a complement to your hair transplant procedure. At our Rochester clinic we carry a selection of products that can nourish and strengthen hair for healthy maintenance, as well as offering platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments to encourage new hair growth.

What Is Non-Surgical Hair Restoration?

Surgical hair restoration available in the form of FUE or FUT, have become a popular choice among patients, but non-surgical treatments can serve as great complements for certain patients. Read below about the options we have available.

Rogaine®

How Effective Is Rogaine® for Hair Loss?

The active ingredient in Rogaine revitalizes shrunken hair follicles, increasing their size. With continued use, applied to the scalp twice a day, Rogaine provides the following benefits:

  • Follicles gain even greater volume
  • Their growing phases become longer
  • They produce longer, thicker hairs

Rogaine Extra Strength for Men is the strongest FDA-approved hair re-growth product safe enough to be sold without a prescription. Rogaine works on the follicles in your scalp, where the problem lies, not on the hair on your head.

Propecia®

Can Propecia® Regrow Hair?

Propecia increases the number of scalp hairs. Generally, you will not be able to grow back all of the hair you have lost. It can only work over the long term if you continue taking it. If you stop taking Propecia, you will likely lose the hair you have gained within 12 months of stopping treatment.

How Does Propecia Work?

DHT is a male hormone thought to cause hair follicles to shrink (miniaturize), contributing to male pattern hair loss. Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia) blocks the formation of DHT, and in this way, appears to interrupt a key factor in the development of inherited male pattern hair loss in men. Propecia, a prescription tablet taken once a day, has been proven to effectively lower DHT in the scalp.

Propecia is for use by men only and should not be used by women or children.

82F and 82M

82F® is a compounded medication available only by prescription that combines the therapeutic advantages of minoxidil and finasteride, with a small amount of tretinoin to increase the rate of scalp turnover, and a topical steroid to decrease irritation. This formulation can be used by both patients seeking a non-surgical option, as well as before and after hair restoration procedures to increase hair retention and contribute to the growth and strength of the hair.

For our female patients, 82M® is available. This topical medication combines 5% minoxidil with tretinoin and a topical steroid to promote hair retention, while improving absorption and reducing irritation to the scalp.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Considered the future of medicine, PRP injections use your own blood cells to stimulate hair growth. By injecting the cells directly into the scalp where hair is thinning, this non-surgical, in-office procedure can help reverse hair loss and stimulate new growth.

PRP can be used to complement surgical hair transplant procedures or can be used on its own to slow hair loss and revitalize hair follicles to encourage new hair production.
