New Hope for Old Hair Plugs with Micro-Follicular Unit Hair Grafts

Got Plugs?  Do you or someone you know have hair plugs that are unsightly or painfully obvious?  Are you aware that solutions are readily available to correct this problem?  At the Quatela Center for Hair Restoration, we are now offering the latest techniques in hair transplantation to help remove and/opr camouflage old plugs and to create a much more natural looking hairline.

Repair Techniques for Hair Plugs

The Camoflauge Technique for Hair Plugs:  Camoflauging is a repair technique in which micro follicular units are strategically placed around existing plugs to help make the original hair transplantation less detectable.  This technique is ideal as a stand-alone for individuals whose previous grafts were placed at the correct angle, aren't positioned too close to the hairline and are not unnaturally large in size.  If a person does not meet these criteria, the camoflauge technique can still be used but only after problem grafts and plugs are removed and redistributed.  All previous grafts are saved and reutilized.

Hair Plug Reduction: In many instances, individuals require the surgical removal of problem grafts.  The surgeon removes the grafts using a round punch instrument that is equal to or slightly smaller than the size of the previous instrument used to create the plugs.  The surgeon may leave a small part of the graft in the scalp to create a smaller and more natural looking hair graft.  Any round and visible holes left from the removed grafts will be sutured shut.  The plugs that are removed will then be dissected by our team of experts into small follicular units.

Hair Plug Recycling:  Since follicular units consisting of 1, 2, 3 and 4 hairs occur naturally, the hair being transplanted will follow this same pattern in order to achieve optimal and natural results.  The larger follicular units will be placed directly adjacent to the plugs and will also be used to fill in any gaps in between.  The single units will be placed at the very front of the hairline with the 2 and 3 hair units located closely behind.  The success of the transplant will depend greatly on the placement and condition of the previous plugs and the availability of sufficient donor hair.
