Vito C. Quatela, MD Elected President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

ROCHESTER, NY—September 15, 2006 – The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), today announced the election of Vito C. Quatela, MD as president for 2007. Representing over 3,000 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons throughout the world, members of the Academy are board certified surgeons who specialize in surgery of the face, head and neck. The AAFPRS is a National Medical Specialty Society of the American Medical Association and holds official seats in both the AMA House of Delegates and the American College of Surgeons board of governors.

"It is with great honor and commitment that I view my role as president of the AAFPRS," stated Dr. Vito C. Quatela, board certified surgeon at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery. "With twelve years of academic practice, eight years of private practice and seven years of AAFPRS board experience, I feel charged and well prepared to lead the Board. My practice is devoted to facial plastic surgery, not only as a business in a competitive environment but also as an education forum for training our "future" in fellows and otolaryngology residents. I believe that the educational process is the true backbone of the Academy and the key to its ultimate success."

Founded in 1964, the mission of the AAFPRS is to" promote the highest quality facial plastic surgery through education, dissemination of professional information and the establishment of professional standards." The Academy is comprised mostly of members and fellows certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery and also includes surgeons certified in plastic surgery, ophthalmology and dermatology.

"I will work to preserve the legacy of the AAFPRS, with the sole individual practitioner at its core and education as its mission," stated Dr. Vito C. Quatela. "The membership/education dynamic has fostered an open exchange of information, giving us the tools to become leaders of our specialty in a competitive environment."
